The psalmist is using a common expression of his culture to mean that the people he is describing give new names, their own names, to lands or properties. If this expression does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [They give their names to lands] or [They name lands after themselves]
