uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

שָׁלַ֣ח

(Some words not found in UHB: hear god and,he,will_answer_them and,[he_is]_sitting old selah which/who not change for, them and=not fear ʼElohīm )

The pronoun He refers to David’s former friend. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [My former friend stretches out]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

שָׁלַ֣ח יָ֭דָיו בִּשְׁלֹמָ֗יו

(Some words not found in UHB: hear god and,he,will_answer_them and,[he_is]_sitting old selah which/who not change for, them and=not fear ʼElohīm )

David is using stretches out his hands as a common expression of his culture to mean “commits violent acts.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [My former friend lays violent hands on his friends] or [My former friend commits violent acts against his friends]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

חִלֵּ֥ל בְּרִיתֽוֹ

(Some words not found in UHB: hear god and,he,will_answer_them and,[he_is]_sitting old selah which/who not change for, them and=not fear ʼElohīm )

The word “defile” means to treat something sacred as if it were common. The implication is that this former friend did not consider his covenant with David a sacred obligation that God would enforce. (David could be referring to a formal covenant or the implicit obligations of friendship.) As a result, he was not concerned that God would punish him if he broke the covenant. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [he breaks his covenant] or [he disregards the obligations of friendship]
