uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר & בִּֽישִׁימֽוֹן

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_craved craving in,wilderness and,they_put_to_the_test god in,a_desolate_place )

These two phrases in the wilderness and in the wasteland mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. Hebrew poetry was based on this kind of repetition, and you may want to show this to your readers by including both phrases in your translation. If it is helpful, you could indicate in some way that the second phrase is repeating the first one, not saying something additional. Alternate translation: [in the wilderness … in that wasteland]

Note 2 topic: writing-poetry

וַיִּתְאַוּ֣וּ תַ֭אֲוָה

(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_craved craving in,wilderness and,they_put_to_the_test god in,a_desolate_place )

The psalmist is using a construction in which a verb and its object come from the same root. You may be able to use the same construction in your language to express the meaning here. Alternatively, your language may have another way of saying this. Alternate translation: [And they had strong cravings]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וַיְנַסּוּ־אֵ֝֗ל

and,they_put_to_the_test god

The implication is that they tested God’s patience and faithfulness by demanding things from him and complaining against him. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [and they pushed the limits of God’s patience with them]
