uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

How long must your servant endure this; when will you judge those who persecute me?

(Some words not found in UHB: as,the_what? days_of servant_of,your when(q) you(ms)_will_make in/on/at/with,persecute_of,me judgement )

The writer uses a question to request God to punish those who persecute him. If your readers would misunderstand this question, you can express it as a statement. Alternate translation: “Please do not make wait any longer. Punish those who persecute me.”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

must your servant

(Some words not found in UHB: as,the_what? days_of servant_of,your when(q) you(ms)_will_make in/on/at/with,persecute_of,me judgement )

The writer refers to himself as “your servant.” Alternate translation: “must I, your servant” or “must I”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

Ps 119 This psalm combines elements of wisdom, lament, praise, thanksgiving, and confession. Eight Hebrew words are used frequently, translated as “instructions,” “laws,” “words,” “regulations,” “statutes,” “commands,” “decrees,” “commandments,” and “promises.” Together, these words encourage love for and obedience to God’s instructions, as found in the Scriptures (see 2 Tim 3:14-17). The expression of deep commitment to these instructions unifies the psalm.
