David is speaking of God as if he were sleeping and needed to Awake or arouse himself from sleep. He means that he is asking God to act on his behalf and intervene in this situation. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [Take action] or [I ask you to intervene]
