uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-proverbs

The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone

(Some words not found in UHB: stone rejected the, builders she/it_was as,chief cornerstone )

This is likely a proverb that the writer has used to describe either the king or the nation of Israel. That which others have considered worthless, Yahweh has made to be the most important.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

118:22 The cornerstone (or keystone) of a building or an arch gives the structure its shape and foundation. It is the most important of all the stones. The Lord chooses and places this stone for his sanctuary (Isa 28:16). Jesus referred to himself as this cornerstone (Matt 21:42; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17; see Acts 4:11; Eph 2:20; 1 Pet 2:6-7).
