uW Translation Notes:

Bless God in the assemblies; praise Yahweh, you who are from the fountain of Israel

(Some words not found in UHB: in_front singers after musicians in_the=middle young_women playing_tambourines )

It may be helpful to change the order of these phrases. Alternate translation: “You who are from the fountain of Israel, praise Yahweh and bless God in the assembly”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

from the fountain of Israel

(Some words not found in UHB: in_front singers after musicians in_the=middle young_women playing_tambourines )

The word “fountain” is a metaphor for the ability of the man Israel to be the ancestor of many people: as much water comes from a fountain, so Israel is the ancestor of many people. This also implies that the call is to those who serve God as the man Israel did. Alternate translation: “true descendants of Israel” or “all of you descendants from Israel” (See also: figs-explicit)

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

Ps 68 This prayer for God’s victorious rule traces God’s march from Sinai to Zion (68:7, 16-18, 24). He rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, guided it through the wilderness, brought it into the Promised Land, and established his kingdom. He is a caring and victorious God, whose nature is unchanging. Therefore, the godly hope and rejoice in the prospect of God’s universal dominion.
