TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 75 This hymn of thanksgiving includes two direct messages from God that provide assurance of his justice (75:2-3, 10). The Lord rebukes arrogant people who defy him, promising to forcibly humble them (75:4-8). Together, the community and the psalmist respond with thanksgiving for God’s character (75:1, 9).

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / nominaladj

I said to the arrogant & and to the wicked

I said

(Some words not found in UHB: totters earth/land and=all inhabitants,its I keep_~_steady pillars,its selah )

This could mean: (1) God is speaking or (2) Asaph is speaking.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / pronouns

Do not be arrogant & Do not lift

(Some words not found in UHB: totters earth/land and=all inhabitants,its I keep_~_steady pillars,its selah )

The speaker is speaking to many wicked people, so these forms are plural.

Do not lift up the horn

(Some words not found in UHB: totters earth/land and=all inhabitants,its I keep_~_steady pillars,its selah )

Asaph speaks of wicked people as if they were animals with horns on their heads, stretching their necks and holding their heads high to frighten other animals. Alternate translation: “Do not be confident” or “Do not boast about how strong you are”
