Asaph is speaking of Israel as if it were a vine that sent out its branches. If this image communicates well in your language, please use it. If not, you could express this in another way. Alternate translation: [The people extended their territory]

Asaph is referring to the entire promised land by naming its two extreme boundaries, the sea (the Mediterranean Sea in the west) and the River (the Euphrates River in the east). If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [the Mediterranean Sea, and its shoots to the Euphrates River]
