The psalmist is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. Here, treads represents “shoots.” Ancient archers would step on their bows in order to bend them so that they could string them. David means “when he steps on his bow to string it and then shoots arrows from it.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [When he launches his arrows] or [When he shoots his arrows]
