Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed as a tool for Bible-translators and others doing comparisons of different translations—the older translations are further down the page (so you can read up from the bottom to trace the English translation history). The OET segments on this page are still early looks into the drafted texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible—please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

The verbs in this verse are in a form that Hebrew writers could use to express either a statement or a wish. It would be consistent with the usual pattern of an imprecatory psalm (see the introduction to this psalm) for David to express a wish at this point that God would judge and punish this wicked person. However, he may also be making a confident statement about what God will do. The original audience would have heard both nuances. Use the verbal form in your language that seems most suitable. Alternate translation: [May God also tear you down forever! May he take you away and tear you from the tent and uproot you from the land of the living!]
