TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 73 This wisdom psalm examines the injustice of the prosperity of the wicked. The psalmist affirms that God is good to the godly but his own experience differs (73:2-12). Nearly overcome by his doubts (73:13-16), the psalmist meets the Lord in the sanctuary and gains a perspective that stretches beyond his life and renews his confidence in God (73:17-26). His disturbing doubts stir a greater passion for truth. He knows that he can trust God and that God will rescue him (73:27-28).

כַּחֲל֥וֹם מֵהָקִ֑יץ אֲ֝דֹנָי בָּעִ֤יר ׀ צַלְמָ֬ם תִּבְזֶֽה

like,dream when,awakes my=master/master in/on/at/with,awaking phantoms,their despise

The author is comparing the short and temporary duration of a dream, which is over after a person awakes, to the fact that God will despise wicked people when he rouses himself to action and judges them. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the basis of this comparison or express this meaning in plain language. Alternate translation: “They will disappear as quickly as a dream disappears when a person awakes in the morning; Lord, when you act, you will cause them to disappear”

צַלְמָ֬ם

phantoms,their

Alternate translation: “their form”
