TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 18 This royal drama of divine rescue (also found with minor variations in 2 Sam 22:1-51) encourages readers who are following the laments and requests for rescue in Pss 16 and 17. The psalmist describes the dramatic nature of God’s rescue in three different ways (18:7-15, 16-19, 30-36). The psalm also extends hope that a future Son of David will be totally victorious over evil (18:43-50; cp. Ps 2).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

They came against me

(Some words not found in UHB: delivered,me from,enemy,my strong and,from,hated,me that/for/because/then/when mighty too_~_for,me )

Here “They” refers to the strong enemies in verse 17.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

They came against me on the day of my distress but Yahweh was my support

(Some words not found in UHB: delivered,me from,enemy,my strong and,from,hated,me that/for/because/then/when mighty too_~_for,me )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word distress, you could express the same idea with an adjective. If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word support, you could express the same idea with a verbal form such as “protected.” Alternate translation: “Strong enemies attacked me on a day when I was distressed, but Yahweh protected me”
