TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 119 This psalm combines elements of wisdom, lament, praise, thanksgiving, and confession. Eight Hebrew words are used frequently, translated as “instructions,” “laws,” “words,” “regulations,” “statutes,” “commands,” “decrees,” “commandments,” and “promises.” Together, these words encourage love for and obedience to God’s instructions, as found in the Scriptures (see 2 Tim 3:14-17). The expression of deep commitment to these instructions unifies the psalm.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

I will walk securely

(Some words not found in UHB: and,walk in/on/at/with,liberty that/for/because/then/when precepts_of,your sought )

To walk securely is to live one’s life securely. Alternate translation: “I will live securely in God” (See also: figs-explicit)

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

I seek your instructions

(Some words not found in UHB: and,walk in/on/at/with,liberty that/for/because/then/when precepts_of,your sought )

To “seek” is to perceive, or gain understanding of God’s instructions as if one can see them.
