TSNTyndale Study Notes:

Ps 118 With an exultant testimony, the psalmist gives thanks for the Lord’s goodness and encourages others to trust in his faithful love (118:1-4, 29). This poem is the last of the Egyptian Hallel (Pss 113–118).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / exclamations

Oh

(Some words not found in UHB: give_thanks to/for=YHWH that/for/because/then/when good that/for/because/then/when to,forever steadfast_love,his )

This is an exclamation that should be translated with whatever exclamation of emphasis you have in your language to make it sound natural.

give thanks to Yahweh; for he is good

(Some words not found in UHB: give_thanks to/for=YHWH that/for/because/then/when good that/for/because/then/when to,forever steadfast_love,his )

“thank Yahweh because of the good things he does.” See how you translated this in Psalms 118:1.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

his covenant faithfulness endures forever

(Some words not found in UHB: give_thanks to/for=YHWH that/for/because/then/when good that/for/because/then/when to,forever steadfast_love,his )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word faithfulness, you could express the same idea with an adjective. See how you translated this in Psalms 118:1–2. Alternate translation: “he remains faithful to his covenant forever”
