his/its=god

David is using the possessive form to describe a law that comes from his God. Also, by using the phrase his God he does not mean that the righteous person possesses or controls Yahweh, but rather to emphasize that Yahweh is the God he worships. See the introduction to Psalms for further discussion. Alternate translation: [The law given by the God whom he worships]

David is speaking as if the righteous person were walking along a path and his steps could slip. He means that the righteous person will not fail in his conduct. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [he will not fail in the way he lives]
